Guns and Roses
The triggers for this series are a combination of factors and events that started with being forced to vacate my studio and temporarily moved into a home space. During that period, with little space to work, I decided to go through the enormous collection of saved scraps, unsuccessful prints, unfinished work, images torn from magazines and old drawings and copies I had amassed through the years. It was 2007…the war, the terrorism, the political nightmare, the many ways in which we are destroying our beautiful planet had reached a tipping point for me personally and I had to express it in my art. Together with the final element, my 60th birthday, I started to think of my personal history. Using the accumulations from years of hoarding scraps I was going to see what happened when I recycled all that stuff into a series of work. The resulting pieces are about recycling, past and present, war and peace, guns and roses redefined.
